Karly was a beautiful kid, picking up a dry leg at 2 months old. She stood dry as a yearling, a little disappointing as we were eager to see some Remy udders. It was worth the wait. Karly freshened with a beautiful mammary and finished her championship as a first freshening 2 year old. We didn't show Karly at all in 2005, with the feed issues we had, she wasn't making much milk and needing to limit the workload before returning to work, I dried Karly off early, which also meant she missed appraisal.
Karly was bred to Mauser, a repeat of Katia who was Junior Champion in both rings at the 2005 GSDGA Spring Bash in Harmony, NJ and freshened with 2 beautiful buck kids. Karly looked better than ever when she freshened and couldn't wait to have her appraised again but it wasn't to be.
Just a week before our show season began, Karly went off feed and dropped a ton of weight. We did everything we could to help her but she wasn't getting better. We found a lump high on her right side, just under her rib cage the night before the show and by then, it wasn't looking good. We called the vet out and at midnight, were saying goodbye to our first home bred champion. With having to leave so early for the show (I was show chair), we were unable to get her to the clinic to have her posted so unfortunately, we'll never really know why but we miss her just the same.
We are thankful for the time we had with Karly in the herd and for the daughter that she gave us. One of her last sons is in a local herd and is growing quite handsome. I'm excited to see his kids in the spring and may make plans to use him in the future.
